A Salute and Thank You to Our Veterans
Today’s blog isn’t about giving the latest stats on New York housing or listing what’s happening in the market right now. This one is a simple and heartfelt note of thanks to our soldiers, the men and women here and abroad, that fight for our freedoms and ensure our safety.
Yesterday’s traffic snarled as city planners and officials were preparing for the Veterans’ Day Parade that we have every year in the city. The parade began today around 11 a.m. and finished up at 2 p.m. This tradition started here in NYC in 1919 and it’s the oldest and largest one of its kind in the country. It runs north, up 5th Avenue from 26th Street to 56th. Each year, there’s a commemorative ceremony in Madison Square Park at the Eternal Flame.
Mayor Bloomberg and other New York officials and leaders always attend to honor our veterans, their service and their sacrifices. Over 20,000 people participate in the parade; floats, marchers, bands, active military, veteran groups and their families take time to reflect and remember.
Traffic around the city comes to a standstill.
But that’s okay. We don’t mind a bit dealing with the crowds or the street closings. This is a day of remembrance and one where each of us should take a moment to give recognition to our troops, past and present, and their families.
Happy Veterans’ Day and a heartfelt thank you to our Veterans; from me and from all of us at The Bracha Group.
